Oxfordshire Schools COP Conference (OxCOP) was an exciting and educational experience for our Year 10 and Year 12 Geography students!
Engaging in a simulation that mirrors real-world climate negotiations was an excellent way to deepen their understanding of global environmental issues and the complexities involved in international policymaking.
Our 3 teams, representing China, Nigeria, and The Marshall Islands learnt to appreciate different perspectives on climate challenges based on geographical, economic, and social contexts. The skills developed; critical thinking, collaboration, negotiation, independent learning, and public speaking are invaluable not just in the context of climate negotiations, but in numerous aspects of their education and future careers.
Students enjoyed the event and found it to be a brilliant experience. Such opportunities can inspire them to become more engaged and informed citizens, passionate about addressing climate change and advocating for sustainable solutions. Events like OxCOP play a significant role in educating the next generation about the importance of global cooperation in tackling environmental issues.
